Job Summary/Essential Duties:

Performs a comprehensive assessment of the patient during a preliminary visit or upon admission to the outpatient department utilizing the assessment parameters to prepare an individualized plan of care.

Plans and implements an individualized, age specific, intra-operative plan of patient care based upon preoperative patient assessments found on the patient s chart, as well as pre-op assessments made during an interview conducted with the patient and/or significant other.

Instructs and/or preoperatively teaches the patient/family/significant other concerning the surgical procedure and post-op expectations.

Reviews the patient s chart for required documentation for the surgical procedure.

Develops a plan of care based upon assessment data that anticipates both patient and family needs.

Involves the patient, the family and other health care personnel in the plan of care.

Implements nursing care activities identified in the plan of care a physician orders in accordance with unit policies/procedures.

Evaluates the plan of care throughout the pre/post-operative phases of care and modifies the plan as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience

- Four (4) years nursing experience in an acute care facility preferred.

Education/Licensure

Required

  • Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program is required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing or related field is preferred.
  • Licensed in Nebraska or Iowa as a Registered Nurse; Nebraska and Iowa are compact states, so license must be held in state of residence.

  • Excellent computer and keyboarding skills.

  • Must possess knowledge of how to provide care to a diverse population of patients and the ability to communicate and work with people from a variety of age-groups, social strata and ethnic backgrounds.
